The right AI tool for HR depends on the job you need it to do. ChatGPT and Claude are useful candidates for drafting and working through documents. Microsoft 365 Copilot and Google Workspace with Gemini fit teams already working in those suites. LunaPrompts focuses on assessing AI and technical skills; ATS and HR service platforms address other parts of the workflow.
This is LunaPrompts’ editorial shortlist, reviewed on October 13, 2026. It includes our own product. The order starts with our technical hiring focus and then groups other useful options; it is not an independent benchmark or a universal performance ranking. We reviewed official product information, not hands-on trials of every plan. Links beside each profile let you inspect the vendor’s current description.

These products are not interchangeable. An employee help desk, a writing assistant, and a skills assessment platform solve different problems. Start by choosing the category, then compare products inside it.
1. LunaPrompts: for AI and technical skills assessment
Our recommendation when: your hiring team needs evidence that candidates can do AI engineering or technical work.
LunaPrompts supports practical AI and coding assessments, AI Viva follow-ups, and candidate reporting. Teams can explore tasks around prompt engineering, agents, RAG, system design, and AI-assisted coding. Unlimited tests and authorized team seats are part of the subscription model; agree the tooling and enterprise service scope for your account.
In a pilot, bring one role and ask to see the task, the candidate environment, the rubric, and the resulting report together. Check how reviewers investigate an incomplete answer or an integrity signal. The goal is a useful hiring conversation grounded in work.
Start with the assessment templates, review enterprise pricing and startup offers, or explore the assessment workflow. For this shortlist, LunaPrompts is the assessment option; evaluate your broader HR system separately.
2. ChatGPT: for drafts and structured HR work
Shortlist it when: the team needs help turning approved information into a clear brief, checklist, or first draft.
OpenAI documents structured prompting and an onboarding workflow that prepares trackers and welcome material for review. Try a role brief, an onboarding checklist, and a policy FAQ as separate tasks. Require the output to identify missing information.
Ask your administrator which files, connected tools, and actions are available in your workspace. Measure the time to a reviewed result, including corrections. Our 15 ChatGPT prompts for HR provide a starting set.

3. Claude: for document-heavy drafting
Shortlist it when: HR colleagues need to work through substantial approved material and turn it into an understandable draft.
Anthropic describes Claude Enterprise as supporting work with organizational knowledge, documents, Projects, and Artifacts. For an HR trial, our suggested task is a comparison of two fictional onboarding guides: ask for the changes, unresolved conflicts, and a manager-facing summary.
Check whether the answer remains faithful to the documents when they disagree. Confirm the current plan’s file, access, and administrative capabilities rather than relying on a generic assistant comparison.

4. Microsoft 365 Copilot: for Microsoft-centered HR teams
Shortlist it when: your team’s everyday work already happens in Microsoft 365.
Microsoft’s HR training covers Copilot workflows across applications and an HR self-service agent grounded in approved policies. It also notes that licensing and administrator settings affect availability.
For a pilot, use a small approved policy collection and questions with known answers. Include one question the documents cannot answer. Ask IT to confirm permissions before broadening access. Existing Microsoft adoption is a reason to evaluate fit, not proof that every workflow will work out of the box.

5. Google Workspace with Gemini: for Workspace-centered teams
Shortlist it when: HR colleagues spend their day in Docs, Gmail, Sheets, and Meet.
Google’s HR guide describes job-description drafting in Docs and creating trackers in Sheets from prompts. A sensible first trial is a role-description draft paired with a recruiting coordination tracker.
Check the result against your approved brief. For trackers, inspect column definitions and missing values before using them operationally. Confirm the features and controls available in your organization’s Workspace configuration.

6. Notion AI: for employee knowledge discovery
Shortlist it when: useful HR guidance is spread across a Notion workspace and supported connected apps.
Notion’s Enterprise Search documentation describes searching workspace and connected content with source citations, and lists Business and Enterprise plan availability. For HR, that makes policy discovery and onboarding information sensible use cases to evaluate.
Give it current and outdated versions of a fictional policy in a test environment. Inspect the cited source, document ownership, and access controls. Search quality depends on the information available to it; buying search does not repair an unmaintained handbook.

7. Grammarly: for clear, consistent HR communication
Shortlist it when: your main problem is writing quality across emails, announcements, and internal material.
Grammarly describes generative drafting, organization style guides, and brand-tone suggestions. Those capabilities can be evaluated using a candidate invitation and an internal policy announcement.
Keep the same approved facts in the original and revised drafts. Review whether the rewrite improves clarity without changing a commitment or softening an important condition. A writing assistant should be assessed on communication quality, not assumed to validate an HR policy.

8. Ashby: for recruiting workflows inside an ATS
Shortlist it when: recruiting operations need AI assistance inside the system where the team already manages hiring.
Ashby documents application review against defined criteria, AI notetaking, scheduling, and a natural-language report builder. Its scheduling description distinguishes add-on and Enterprise availability. Its application-review material describes citations and human review rather than numerical applicant ranking.
Ask the vendor to demonstrate the exact workflow your recruiters need and how someone corrects an output. Check feature packaging, recording arrangements, access, and reporting definitions in the proposed plan.

9. Greenhouse: for AI support around structured hiring
Shortlist it when: the team wants assistance tied to its structured hiring process.
Greenhouse describes AI features including job-description generation, scorecard summaries, and a notetaker that maps interview notes to scorecard questions. Its product page also describes organization-level controls for AI features.
In the demo, follow one role from setup through interviewer feedback. Ask how generated summaries preserve disagreement and missing evidence. Verify packaging and configuration for the workflow you intend to buy.

10. Workday: for employee HR service delivery
Shortlist it when: employee questions, knowledge articles, and HR cases are the priority.
Workday’s HR Service Delivery page describes AI-assisted content creation, conversational support, and case handling with configurable permissions. This is a different buying problem from generating a job description or testing a developer.
Evaluate the employee experience with realistic approved questions, including one that needs a human case owner. Ask about implementation, the required modules, who can see a case, and how unresolved answers reach the right team.

How to choose without buying ten tools
Write one sentence: “We need to improve [task] for [team], and success means [observable result].” If that sentence contains four unrelated tasks, separate them before shopping.
Use the same test material for comparable products. Record the output, review time, corrections, access requirements, and total cost at your expected usage. Ask what is included now and what requires an add-on, service engagement, or future release. Avoid making a purchasing decision from a single polished answer.
A small team may begin with one approved general assistant and a shared review process. A technical recruiting team may need an ATS plus a specialist assessment workflow. An employee-service team may care more about knowledge ownership and case routing than prompt variety.

Questions before you buy
Which is the best AI tool for HR?
There is no single answer across all HR work. For AI and technical skills assessments, LunaPrompts is our recommendation to evaluate. For drafting, knowledge discovery, ATS operations, or employee service, start with the matching category above.
Are free AI tools enough for an HR team?
They may be enough to try a fictional drafting exercise. Operational use needs the controls, capacity, and agreements your organization requires. Check those requirements against the current plan before introducing real records.
Does AI remove the need for recruiters?
This shortlist focuses on supporting specific tasks. Recruiters still define requirements, coordinate people, review evidence, and own decisions. Evaluate tools by the work they improve and the review they require.
